Deși cerșetorii din România au o foarte mare popularitate în media din Vest, folosiți de multe ori ca argumente ale naționaliștilor împotriva imigrației, pot fi, în același timp, invizibili pentru cei de acolo.
The Folkoperan Opera House din Suedia, al cărui slogan este „Operă pentru toți”, au încercat un experiment. Cerșetori din mai multe țări, printre care și România, ofereau bilete gratis trecătorilor care le citeau mesajul până la final. După 12 ore și 10 locuri de încercare, au fost oferite doar 2 bilete.
Comentariile de pe Youtube ar putea constitui un alt experiment, în sine, ca efect nepremeditat al acestei inițiative. Câteva dintre ele:

And generally here in Norway and in scandinavia the beggars are NOT poor. They are a part of an organized crime group that profits by begging money and sending it back to Romania or wherever the fuck they come from. But to the actual beggars I´m sorry I don´t help you but if I´m outside I generally have shit to do so don´t bother me. And how would I know if you actually are that poor that you cant even buy food? You came to the wrong country friends. It is no solution in begging for money in Scandinavia. Go home.
Love how they tried to make this emotional video, but it backfired insted..
I think people who commented saying that "they are all thieves" and that they should "go back to their country" really lacks the ability to put theirselfs in somone elses shoes.
