Smart Cities - Infrastructure and Transport of the Future

How do we build the cities and the infrastructure of tomorrow in a more sustainable way? Imagine a silent and emission free city. Imagine a cleaner safer and more resource efficient world. This is our scenario for the future.

Hyperloop and future transport technology: flying bicycles, maglev podcars, driverless cars

Innovations in technology are revolutionising the way we get around. Exciting new tech is making it easier, faster and safer to travel. The age of the internal combustion is nearing its end. Intelligent cars will drive themselves along pre-determined routes, trains are using magnetic rails to glide along tracks without friction, and floating cars will zip over roads embedded with electromagnetic materials. A new reality awaits us … and in some cases it’s already here.

Hyperloop Explained | The B1M

Hyperloop represents the greatest leap in transport infrastructure for generations. Here we explain the concept that's about to revolutionise our world.

This is SpaceX’s very first human crew

This year, if all goes well, astronauts will launch to space on a private craft for the first time in history. It’s SpaceX’s big chance to show NASA that it can be trusted with the work of ferrying astronauts to and from the international space station. We met the two astronauts selected for this historic mission and spoke with them about what’s different about working with a private company like SpaceX.

What SpaceX Means For Elon Musk's Mars Dreams

In less than two decades, SpaceX went from Elon Musk's dream of a greenhouse experiment on Mars to conducting the majority of U.S. rocket launches.

This is Elon Musk’s key to Tesla’s future

Elon Musk's Gigafactory is arguably the most important thing that Tesla makes. The 1.9 million-square-foot factory in Sparks, Nevada, is only 30 percent complete, but it’s already on track to make 60 percent of the world’s lithium ion batteries — and Tesla plans to build more Gigafactories around the world. The Verge took a look inside.

What a driverless world could look like | Wanis Kabbaj

What if traffic flowed through our streets as smoothly and efficiently as blood flows through our veins? Transportation geek Wanis Kabbaj thinks we can find inspiration in the genius of our biology to design the transit systems of the future. In this forward-thinking talk, preview exciting concepts like modular, detachable buses, flying taxis and networks of suspended magnetic pods that could help make the dream of a dynamic, driverless world into a reality.

Car jumping: the future of transportation | Tommaso Gecchelin | TEDxTUM

Imagine you're on your way to work and stuck in traffic. You look to your left, you look to your right: everyone's traveling in the same direction, but each car only has one occupant. Tommaso Gecchelin understands people's desires to be autonomous and ubiquitous while commuting, but it's hard to deny there's lots of room for improvement in our traffic situation. With his idea of car jumping, he introduces a new way of transportation, which allows people commuting in the same direction to group more efficiently, while still providing a door-to-door transportation service.

Cars Almost Killed Our Cities, But Here's How We Can Bring Them Back | Gabe Klein | TEDxMidAtlantic

Our cities are making us – and the planet – sick, and the problem lies in the automobile, which has taken over how we live and use space. Thankfully, new technology like autonomous vehicles and 3D printing has opened the door for us to bring our cities back from the brink, says transportation expert and city planner Gabe Klein. But we need to act quickly to ensure cities will be places we want to live.

Change in your Transportation Future | Zach Krapfl | TEDxPaonia

What is required to move a human from point A to point B on foot, bike, car, train? Bike Engineer Zach Krapfl looks at the environmental footprint of many methods of modern transportation and finds some surprising answers to this question, along with big opportunities for change. A most promising one: People who have changed their main mode of transportation to electric bikes are living healthier, happier, more eco-friendly lives.

A new local energy and transport system | Robin Berg | TEDxUtrecht

Innovative ways of generating energy are becoming essential to sustain our lifestyle as it is. Robin Berg wants to show how, on a small-scale, we can implement a variety of initiatives which can make a neighbourhood more sustainable. Lombok in Utrecht is his platform where he experiments with the use of solar energy. It is here he installed ‘Smart Solar Charging’ the first sun power-controlled charging station and V2G-system in the world.

Advertisers shape technology -- what that means for "smart" cars | John Ellis | TEDxWilmingtonSalon

Imagine a world where the data about a thing is more valuable than the thing itself. That world is closer than you may think. As cars, appliances, and other devices are equipped with sensors, you may be able to trade that data for money and drastically reduce the cost of purchasing just about anything. This has profound implications for the business of making cars and other things. It means that cars aren’t just cars anymore; they are vehicles for the delivery of data.

The Future of Mobility: 2050 and Beyond | Carla Bailo | TEDxOhioStateUniversity

Dedicating herself to the auto-industry, Carla Bailo has been around cars for a long time. Throughout her career, Carla has strived to provide the safest and most efficient vehicular experience for the public.
