Activitate avand ca scop verificarea gradului de acceptare, a intentiilor de cumparare, a perceptiilor, a atitudinilor, a opiniilor consumatorilor reali/potentiali, in baza unui experiment efectuat pe un esantion reprezentativ din populatia-tinta. Actiunea de testare are in vedere variabilele mixului (produs, pret, distributie, mix promotional), precum si domeniul pietei, comportamentul si motivatiile de cumparare etc. Spre exemplu, un test de produs - efectuat, cel mai frecvent, la lansarea unui produs nou (fr. - test d'un produit nouveau) vizeaza comercializarea produsului pe scara limitata, o perioada de timp determinata, pe piete reprezentative (test de magazin, test de oras sau test zonal), stabilindu-se cele mai adecvate variante privind forma, marimea, greutatea, culoarea, designul ambalajului etc, astfel incat acesta sa fie bine primit de consumatori (V. incercare gratuita). Alte teste legate de produs: test de concept (engl. - concept testing), test de acceptabilitate, test de ambalaj, test de nume, test privind imaginea de marca etc.
